About Me

I’m a passionate technologist with a lifelong love for all things computers, programming, and electronics. Whether I’m whacking together some code, building my next electronic project, or setting up a overly robust home network, I’m just happy to be making!

Who I Am

I’m an avid learner and a relentless tinkerer at heart. My fascination with computers began at an early age when I first sat in front of a Commodore 64 and learned how to program in BASIC. Over the years, this passion has only grown, evolving into a diverse interests that spans software development, hardware projects, networking and home automation. I’m always eager to learn something new and share that knowledge with others.

What I Do

On this blog, you’ll find a mix of tutorials, project walk-throughs, and personal reflections on my journey in the tech world. I work on a variety of projects including:

  • Computing and Programming: Exploring new languages and Linux distributions. Hopefully making it easier along the way.
  • Electronics & DIY Projects: Bringing ideas to life with circuits, microcontrollers (mainly ESP and Atmel based), and sensors, turning everyday objects into interesting or useful items.
  • Home Networking: Building a secure, efficient, and scalable home network. Currently there is an OPNsense router leading that march but can and probably will change as the wind blows. Behind that is a modest collection of home servers running all sorts of services, including Docker containers, and being fed by a TrueNAS storage server…..It’s homename is still ‘FreeNAS’ just a nod to how far back it goes with this BSD-based marvel.
  • Home Automation: Home Assistant! It’s almost unbelievable how much automation is available to the everyday person these days. There is a strong cross over with electronics here as modules and sensors are created and then added into Home Assistant.

I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into understandable, engaging content that empowers others to explore and innovate.

Why I Blog

I started this blog as a way to document my experiments and the lessons I learn along the way. It’s a space where I can share the successes, the challenges, and everything in between. You ever do something a year or two ago and then need to replicate that and have no idea what you did? Yeah, of course, me neither. Seriously, I keep word documents and digital notebooks but let’s call that “the madman collection”. I hope to start organizing my thoughts and progress along the way. While, I’m doing that, I figured why not share it with others who may be going through it as well. I know I’ve leaned on many other posts, by different people, as well so it’s time for me to give back.

My goal is to inspire others to dive into technology with confidence and curiosity. By fostering a community of like-minded individuals, I hope to contribute to a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Beyond the technical aspects, I believe that every project is a story—a narrative of problem-solving, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of improvement. Through this blog, I aim to tell those stories, whether it’s about troubleshooting a stubborn network issue at 2 AM (it’s ALWAYS DNS, usually) or crafting a neat automation routine that makes everyday life just a bit easier.

Happy Making!!!!
